The blade of this Petty is forged of Damasteel stainless steel. Consisting of concentric circles of alternating stainless steels, as the blade is forged the layers distort, and when the blade is ground, the layers are revealed, with each distortion and kink in the pattern illustrating a blow of the hammer. The cutting edge is quite flat near the heel, leading up to a fine tip for intricate work.
The handle is made of stunning wind felled Yew from Co. Tipperary, Green Ocean plastic from Farrihy Bay in Co. Clare, sterling silver, and brass. It is faceted and octagonal, tapering outwards towards the butt for balance.
Though this knife is not huge, it’s size and shape make it an extremely versatile kitchen all-rounder. I confess, I was very, very tempted to keep this one!
Length of cutting edge: 145mm
Overall length: 280mm
Weight: 115g
Balance point: At the silver pin.
