Hugo Byrne Knives
Knives for everyday use in the kitchen, handmade here in Limerick City using a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques.
Apart from high functionality, I always endeavour to celebrate the natural qualities of the materials. I avoid using bought materials for the handles of my knives. Be it 6,000 year old Bog Oak from Glenstal Abbey, Pear wood from my garden here in Limerick, or merely drift plastic from a beach on the West Coast of Ireland, I try to bear in mind the provenance of the materials used.
I believe that when you hold these things in your hand, and use them daily, for something as primary as the preparation of food for yourself, or your family, that you can feel the energy and the journey of these materials, and that there is a deeper significance and connection with the tool you are using, and the journey it has made to get to you.
It is essential that my knives work well on a practical and ergonomic level, but equally essential that they be objects of beauty in themselves.
They are made to order, so if you are interested in a knife or would simply like to know a little bit more, just give me a shout.
